One year ago tomorrow, I wrote an article for the Vine:
Guns and the United States
There were over 300 comments to that article. More than any other I have written. In general, the gun nuts hooted me down. What a difference a year makes.
My liberal friends may not like what I had to say. I actually agree with one thing that gun nuts like Wayne LaPierre claim. From my viewpoint here in the nutty West - half way between Phoenix and Salt Lake City - it seems to me that we have gone over the edge. We may have gone so far that a simple fix isn't possible anymore. A year ago, I wrote:
There was a time when I thought it might be possible to reverse the damage gun nuts have done. I don't think that anymore. Like a deadly cancer, the gun disease has proceeded to a point where surgery just isn't possible now.
With the millions of deadly weapons now in the hands of gun nuts everywhere, can we back up now? Or (to reference New York Times columnist Paul Krugman), are we actually condemned to live in a Mad Max movie?
What do you think?
One thing I will continue to say, "
To all the gun nuts out there: "I hope you enjoy the world you have created."
